If you’re running a business in 2017, it’s generally accepted that you should be on social media. However, many business struggle along without a clear social media plan, a sense of who they are talking to, what type of content to add or what subjects they should be covering. If you’re in this position, do not fear! We’ve compiled a list of tips to get you going in the right direction.
Create valuable and influential content
Providing valuable content to your audience can help you stand out on social channels.
No matter what content you create, keep it tailored to your niche to set you apart.
Whether you specialize in sales, design or marketing, you want to be the go-to person in that niche. You can help establish yourself as an influencer in your field by creating valuable content that people can learn from and be influenced by.
What does your audience want?
Put yourself into your target audience’s shoes and find out what they want to consume.
Monitor the different content you are sharing and record what works and what doesn’t work, analyse and adapt.
1. Engage with your audience
Engaging with your audience is very important and must be included in your social media marketing strategy. Always reply to any comments or questions, spark conversation with your audience by asking questions and influence them with your content.
Engagement helps to highlight the personality behind your brand and demonstrates that you care about what your followers are saying.
2. Question time
Alongside someone well known in your industry, increase brand awareness and audience engagement by inviting them to ask anything they like on your chosen platform, giving them a better insight into your brand.
3. Take advantage of video
With 60% of the marketing industry currently using video to promote their brand, we highly recommend you jump on the bandwagon. Instagram, Vine, and Snapchat are all great platforms to share video content, whether it's something funny, or something informative, it needn't be lengthy, and it needn't be flashy. You could even share a video tutorial.
4. Repurpose your video
Grab clips from a longer Youtube video and post them on Facebook, Snapchat, or vine; you could also quote from your blog and tweet it out, or turn it into a graphic and share it on Instagram. There are endless possibilities for recycling your marketing.
5. Live video
With a good call to action, live streaming can create excellent audience engagement opportunities.
Facebook and Instagram now have the option to ‘go live’ through video; all of your followers are instantly notified when you are streaming live; with a click of a button they can watch you on a live streaming video!
6. Share, share and share again
Whether you're using Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or Pinterest, share other users' content. Whilst it's a good idea to be frequently posting your own content, sharing other articles related to your industry, for example, is both great for networking and adding a further dynamic to your marketing.
7. Hold a competition
Increase audience engagement by setting up something that requests your audience's involvement, like tweeting a picture of how they use your product. Ensure your prize is related to your brand, give your competition a hashtag, and off you go! Everyone loves a freebie!
8. Start a series
Engage your audience further with a series based on a topic of your choice, and watch it grow as the word gets about. You could do a video series using Youtube, or organise a regular Twitter chat using a hash tag. Snapchat and Facebook also offer possibilities for a series that keeps your audience coming back for more.
9. Collaborate with other brands
You could share each other’s content or team up to create an ebook or webinar. This will expose you to one another's audience and build your networks. Your partners should not be competitors though, and should be someone your audience will be interested in.
10. Celebrate your customers
Show your love for your customers by spotlighting them. You could select a loyal customer of yours each week, and not only retweet and share their content, but direct your audience their way.
