Improve your Google Ranking with SEO

It is becoming increasingly important for your business to be visible in search engines. Google processes over 40,000 search queries every second on average, and with this number only set to increase, SEO is crucial for businesses to be seen and to succeed online and if you don’t believe us, we’ve gathered a list of top statistics to highlight the power of search engine optimisation:

75% of people never scroll past the first page of search engine results

For businesses looking to maximise their revenues, placing as high as possible is vital. Did you know that three-quarters of people never scroll past the first page of search engine results?[1] If you’re on page two of Google a huge chunk of your audience will never reach you - That’s 3 in 4 people who are actively looking for the products or services you provide that won’t reach your site.

80% of people ignore paid search results

Whilst pay-per-click (PPC) can be a great way to maximise sales, it is neither the best or most cost-effective option long term. This is shown by the fact that 80% of people ignore paid search results.[2] Reasons behind this are slightly unclear, some research suggests established web users can identify paid adverts, tied to this web users often think that ads don’t provide the best results for their search. To guarantee yourself the best chance for your audience to see you and visit your site optimising your site for organically generated traffic is the way forward.

93% of online activity starts with a search engine

The first thing people do when they load up their internet browser is to head straight for a search engine. 93% of all web activity starts with a search engine,[3] whether that’s to ask a question, find a product or learn something new. Optimising your website for search traffic is a fantastic way to boost the number of users visiting your site.

82% of searches are made through Google

When you think of different search engines, the first name out of most people’s mouths will be Google. It’s even a verb now ‘just Google it’ and this should come as no surprise as a staggering 82% of all queries on search engines are made through Google.[4] While it is important to make sure your site is optimised for all search engines, such as Bing, Yahoo and Ask.com for example, conquering Google is the most important of them all.

96% of clicks go to the first 4 search engine results

Getting to page one is a mission in its own right, but it shouldn’t be the final pinnacle of your SEO campaign. 96% of clicks go to the top four search engine results,[5] so positioning yourself right at the top of page one should be a clear long-term aim. Having fresh, unique and knowledgeable content will help your site to perform better in search engines.

50% of visitors leave a website that takes more than 2 seconds to load

How frustrating is it when you click on to a site and something is taking a long time to load, whether that’s because of the internet speed, the computer or mobile device being used or the speed of the site? Well if your site is the one performing slowly, you could be harming your sales. Half of the visitors to your site will leave if it takes longer than 2 seconds to load.[6] You can speed up your site through a whole range of techniques such as optimising images and minimising the amount of code you use.

12% of visitors don’t convert for every second of loading time

Another eye-opening statistic related to page speed is that for every extra second your site takes to load, 12% of people will not convert.[7] Making sure your site is performing as quickly as possible is important for retaining customers and making sales.

40% of websites in the top 10 search results use https

Having a secure site is important if you deal with personal and payment details to stop your site being compromised. It also helps you when it comes to search engine rankings, due to 40% of sites in the top 10 search results using https,[8] up from 25%. Having an SSL certificate proves to customers and search engines that your site is trustworthy and therefore helps to improve your overall ranking placement.

52% of searches come from mobile devices

More and more people are browsing the internet on mobile devices, whether that’s a phone or tablet. Optimising your site so it displays at its best for mobile users is a must as 52% of all searches stem from mobile devices.[9] These days, users tend to expect great functionality on their mobile and many will instantly leave a search result if it is not mobile-friendly or they have difficulty using the site.

Having a website that no-one visits is like having a shop and not opening the doors. If you’re interested in driving your business growth forward online talk to us about an SEO campaign today. Simply email hello@unleashedweb.co.uk or call on 01392 964012.
